I have started on my custom background for a coworker. I have never tried this so I will post how it goes here and ask my questions. Plan is to paint in black on the outside of the sticker...green on the inside...then peal it off and go over with yellow. Do yall think it will work

One question to those that have used rollers and latex paint for glass...can I also use a brush? Will you be able to tell from the front if different methods are used to apply?? I want to use a brush around the decal. Also can I use oil based paints too?

Only thing I did just now....

Why not use spraypaint? I know you can buy both 'official' colors in rattle cans.

I've used both rollers and brushes for latex paint, and was unable to tell the difference, except the roller took about 3 coats.

I thought about using spray paint...but encase it doesn't come out right it I would be able to scrape off the regular paint and do just black. As for peeling off the decal that was another point of worry. I was thinking about running an exact-o knife arround the edge before peeling it off and then just going slow on major angles.

When you peel the decal, do it just after the paint starts to dry, but before it goes tacky. Use an exact-o to pick the sticker edges, and peel at a 90 degree angle. Its what I do on cars, so I see no reason why it wouldn't work on a tank.

The decals should be fine peeling off after the tacky point has passes as well. Point is, don't peel when sticky or the edges stretch, and don't peel after fully cured, or the paint will crack.

So do all the coats back to back not letting it cure between the coats...and then on the final one pull sticker when its not tacky yet.

First, great work. Looks really clean. Should be a great final product.
Second, the suggestion by pjsmetana to remove the sticker before it gets tacky is right. That should work out perfectly.

Third, when I saw a john deere logo, I immediately looked to see your location. Heh.

The decal is blue...its just for masking.

And yes...I live in the south (Lafayette currently) LOL...BUT this is not for me...altho I dont mind john deere my coworker is a nut for it...thats what gave me the idea to try this out for him when we decided to put a tank in his office. He is also a cajun music singer...Richard Lebouef if anyone reading this has heard of him.

Nothing runs like a Deere when being chased by a Kubota. J/K
OK. All kidding aside go with spray paint. The less mil thickness you have to deal with the easier the decal will come up.
When you spray the black , mask the green , when you spray the green mask the rest. Keep the mil thickness to a minimum. $ .02
