Custom hood for archer fish

Hey everyone I am soon to move my archer fish into my 40 gallon tank. However I want it to be able to spit without having to lower the level of the water. Therefore I am going to try and make a hood that can open up more than usual to allow the archer the chance to spit.

The picture shows how I am planning on having the hinge much earlier but still with enough room for a light fixture. Can anyone see any problems with the design? Or as the picture is only off paint can anyone not see what I am trying to say at all?

i think that would work. he will have plenty of room to spit through that hood.

Yeah that's right at the moment he is in a tank which is under the main tank on the shelf of the stand. So the light is screwed into the wood above the tank.

But I can't do this with this tank and Ive always wanted to make a hood for this tank and this is the best way I can think of doing it to suit my archer fish.

hey man it would be really cool if you could build like a glass box on top of the tank and wire some fake plants in it. then you could dump some crickets or some thing on the plants and watch him catch his food without insects and water going everywhere.

Yeah that is what I would like to do. However the tank is in our lounge room and my parents want it to look decorative. So I think that a more conventional hood would look better.

I love watching archers work... I think you could come up with a cool "attachment" piece out of plexi that you could do that with ...
