As a store owner if someone is in the store that i havent seen before and they say they want a fish i alway's ask them if they know the general care for the fish. If they do we talk about outher thing's (there tank, there plains, ect ect). If they don't know i give them the genual care of the fish ( what he eat's, how big he grow's, and recomended tank size and tank mates). I willingly spend countless hour's with custimers just talking about fish to make them more educated about the fish even if i don't make a sale im still happy knowing that that person is walking out of the store with more knolage then when they walked in.
:iagree:better to know things then to not know things

i totally agree. generally ill sell people what they ask for but when they pick out something that might have special care needs [big tank, special water, eating needs] ill generally try to talk them out of it. its like, if you list the reasons something DOESNT make a good pet, and the person still wants it, theyll generally do what they can to take care of it. and yes we guarantee our fish so i dont like returning dead ones, but its not cuz it comes out of my pocket. i just hate when people kill fish for no reasons.

I would be glad to see more petstores like yours, where they educate the buyer instead of getting them into something they cant handle.

Well at least you didn't buy two African Aros for you tank without knowing how to care for them LOL And the store owner just let you walk out LOL KNowing you knew jack LOL I just read that in a thread yesterday. LOL

But you are right they should in my opinion try to give you some education rather than trying not to sell you something ... If they buy a fish they don't want to sell they should keep it in a display only or in the back somewhere.. Thats considering that they them selves know what they have :)

one last thing to all lfs customers... you have to look at it from the stores point of view! Idk about other fish store, but at the one i work at we get ALOT of idiots who dont know wtf they are doing! So i uestion everyone and everything! I dont give anyone the benefit of the doubt... Say if someone came in and said i wanna buy that 10 Passer Angel, im going to ask everything about where the fish is going to and if it will MAKE IT! So forgive us for looking out fot the fish, and for idiot mistakes!

they have to do this to ensure a good home for there fish, the good ones neway
