Customize Aqueon 55/75 or Emperors with Fluval/Aquaclear media?

So I got it the other day, and there really is quite a lot of room in there. I got 2 bags of 110 biomax, and that isn't nowhere enough to fill up the case. I ended up cutting the sponge in my AC 110 in half (as it was about 5 inches tall) and placed that near the left of the aqueon where the water enters, to protect my bio bags from getting too much detritus in them. That also left me more room in the 110, so I'll have to get a good chunk of biomax bags to fill up both remaining filters, which will be great for filtration. Noticed it is definitely louder than my aquaclear, but for 35 bucks at 1/3 of the cost of another AC110 I'm not complaining.

I took the bio-holster and the wet/dry diffuser off though, not sure if they are really needed. Any opinions on them?

I like the diffuser as an added barricade against my polys getting out. As for the holsters I view it as just another surface for some bacteria to cling to. Is also hand to make sure nothing gets out of the filter and into the tank. (ceramic rings or whatever)

I use the holsters to hold diy poly pads I use for mech filtration. But I know you aren't into cartridges.

The diffuser grid helps with noise ive found. And its basically the equivalent to a hand full of bioballs. Without it the water exits too fast and makes alot of turbulence and splashes some.

I have one with biomax and one with pads. The one with pads is quieter. The one with biomax makes a lot of splashing noise but it isnt unpleasant, it's a flowing water sound. Helps me fall asleep lol.
