Cute little guy, or gal?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Wow beautiful growth. Really transitioned nicely! I see you are keeping it in a semi planted aquarium. I’ve heard they are omnivores. Out of curiosity how is yours with plants?

Very lovely. My larger Choco varies from green with red to his stress pattern. My new smaller one doesn't really show the green/red yet but it is still under 3in.
From what I see on line the only conclusive info is males get larger and grow a hump. Super helpful

Hi esoxlucius esoxlucius ,
That is a very unique looking cichlid for sure. It's a very nice looking Chocolate cichlid. A real one too. I really like the body shape and colors. Thanks for keeping us updated.

Just found this cool thread! Looks like your choc has a "Cross" pattern, too! My Bobo is getting super chunky with a 'gobbler' chin. No real hump, but his head is kinda bumpy now. It's still a lot smoother than some other chocs I've seen tho.

Maybe yours will surprise you with kooky colors! It's wild when they do that. BTW, I thought it was a baby O too in the early pic.

I took this picture of my choc cichlid last night. Without doubt this is the best one I've taken so far. It's really coming along now. Those beautiful earthy colours are showing. I love this fish. It's hard to believe that it is the same fish as the scrawny little drab images from earlier in the thread. It's about 6" at the minute, I can't wait to see it when it's 10-12".
