Cutteri Questions

What's the footprint on a 38? I would think that it will still be tight for more than a pair of any of the cryptoheros species to live comfortably. I wouldn't give up on the rainbows quite yet. Get a group of dithers (maybe serpae tetras would be nice for contrast) and give the rainbows a chance to grow and pair up. Adults are really nice and will do a good job as parents.

Tank is 36 x 12 x 20

I have had the rainbows for 2 months and they just hide. Always. I may keep a pair in a separate tank.

After talking with some local breeders we determined that 2 pairs should be good in this tank. The tank will be setup to provide 2 territories as well as a huge line of site obstacle between those territories.

When the cutteri breed (and they will), they'll beat the snot out of the rainbows...even in a 36" tank.

I agree with adding some dithers to the tank with the rainbows to make them more comfortable...

I kept a male cutteri with a bunch of adult red tiger motaguense. It more than held its own with RTM twice its size. They are supremely tough and aggressive.

Yeah I'm going to get dithers for the Rainbows, leave my HRPs in a 20L and get another 20L for a pair of Cutteri. I have several 20 standards for grow outs for the various fry/juveniles and can sell them at that point.
