I picked up 4 fish labled cutteri from a reputable shop about a week and a half ago. Upon doing some research I found there is topic of cutteri and spirulus being confused with each other. So I took to the internet and read several arguments and articals with this as the topic. After reading all the info and going off of my reputable shop, I decided to google images search both names. In my images search there came up two visually diferent fish. 1 for each name. The cutteri name brought up fish that are identical to the ones I purchased. So would it be safe to assume I got the cutteri. Sorry it almost sounds like this question answers itself, but I am still looking for other opinions. And also looking for a complete description of both fish, and there current classification status. If anyone has any info please let me know. Thank you.

Well like I was saying I'm pretty sure I've come to the conclusion that I do have cutteri. I was looking to see if anyone has another method they follow other then the ones I have posted. And also if anyone has the current description and classification of these fish or where to find them. I know soto was doing some work on them years ago with someone else that has slipped my mind now. I'm just trying to find the most up to date info. Thanks.

What store did you get them at? What kind of information do you want on these convict type cichlids?
Got them from a place for pets in burien washington. By far the best shop in washington to the best omk. I'm going to call today and see where the got them from. I'm mostly looking for all info but mostly the results that soto and schuster came up with in regards to them being two seperate fish.
they're easy to tell apart visually....some people claim the cutteri to be a variant of spilurum...so they may wind up being the same species but 2 very different fish visually.
