cutting acrylic glass?

well i dont think you need the lid to fit exactly if i was doing it i would leave extra for future stuff like heaters and air tubes
have you thought about a feeding door?

to be shure are you putting lights on yor cover. if so the cover will melt/sag if the lights are too close or plastic is thin
if you want lights on top i would suggest glass cover

how much more expensive is it to get a glass cover? and the light is like florescent so it isn't supposed to heat up the glass is wut i was told. idk, i may have been misinformed.

you can get premade glass covers from a local fish store by "allglass" or "perfecto" this is a much better choich for a first timer, i think that is a much better choice for a tank anyway, as the acrylic/platic/acrylite/lucite/lexan(they are all the same)

the plastic ones bend even if they arnt clost to heay, the plastic absorbs moisture on oneside and that side expands, then it flexes and bends towards the wet side, you can flip the lid every few months to prevent this but it will always happen, espesally with thinner material, well unless you rib it to give it structure but im not going to get into that as its to hard to do.

i would go to a LFS and get a prefabed glass top... also your going to have to wash them to get algea and calsiume off of it and acrylic acratches easyer...

the glass one comes with a plastic flap on the back that you can cut out with sisors, a hinge and grab handles... i have one on my cichlid tank and love it. comes clean with a razor blade(for me its 1" above th3e water line and the airrators blow water on then and this causes alot of algea...)

maybe $45?, im not sure i might have paid $20??? it was about 3-4 yeas ago... i cought one of my cichlids in the air one day the next day i got a cover... its a inwall setup so the only reason i have it is to keep the buggers in the tank.

Home depot doesnt do custom cuts like that, they will rip you a size, not holes. Get a hole saw if you want holes.

^very true, you should go with a prefab model it is easier safer and you can cut yourself, also you might want to look at the ones that come with lights attached, thats what i have on my 75g
