large wire cutters if I want to cut it smooth, tin snips if I don't care and cut in the middle of the box, since they're easier.

Use a diagonal or side cutter.


If your cut needs to be on the flat vertical or horizontal row, then use a heavy file and some force to break out the row to cut.
