table saw should cut it quick and easy

I find it easiest to cut the notches using tin snips. I cut the flat section 1st, then nip the vertical section. A utility blade will help to make a cleaner cut after using the tin snips. I also use the utility blade to carefully shave any excess plastic to give a cleaner edge.

Of course, it never comes out perfectly but it works to keep the fish in the tank.

I would try a jig saw with a fine-tooth blade or aviation snips.

I cut mine with a chop saw. I know it seems like overkill, but I seem to use my chop saw for everything.

Would have to agree. Sounds like it's just not going to be a quick get the scissors cut it and go on with your day. Get out a marker measure the exact parts you need to cut then sit down in front of the TV and take your time. :)
