- Can I give my turtle the ones meant for birds?
- Would it get my tank all cloudy and sandy? Or should I just give him the bone occasionaly in a feeding tub for a few minutes.(can I dry them?)
- Is it safe for fish that are in the tank?

I think I need to get one because I am guessing he's biting on the floating turtle dock..I see bits of it floating and sinking..

I used cuttlebone in the filter. I also buy turtle calcium and sulfa blocks for shell maintenance. I just make sure to provide foods with D3 and omega-3 so the turtle can assimilate the calcium.

No idea what species you're referring to. Some species are adapted to feed on tough chitonous prey. These turtles can be prone to overgrowing their beaks. Providing tough foods like smal crayfish, thin-shelled mussels, raw market shrimp, snails, etc can help them in keeping their beaks nicely trimmed.

i use the bird type for my redfoot torts every now and then it helps keep their beak short and gives them calcium...i occassionally put it in my HOT filter like oddball for wy western painteds normally only when i feel they havent been getting enough calcium cause it disovles slowly into the water for their shell to slowly absorb and what not...

Thanks Oddball and vicedretard.
I was talking about my sonora mud turtle.

but oddball, did you have any fish in the tank while using the turtle blocks?

and vicedretads, how can I make my filter hot? do I break them in small pieces?
does it get your tank all white?

can I reuse a whole submerged cuttlebone again if I dry it?

HOT= hang on tank...not actually hot... but no my tank hasnt turned white ant to be honest i only did this twice...and i didnt break the cuttle up its just a way to circulate calcium into the water...

i have one floating in the tank at all times turtles swim up a take a bite every once in awile i also breed apple snails in the tank they like it too

The best source of calcium is in their foods, which most high quality pellets provide all the clacium needed. The shell does not use calcium from the water, it uses calcium from the bloodstream, which gets there by being eaten. The calcium does not soak through the shell (the shell and skin keep things on the inside in, and things on the outside out).

Never bothered the minnows in with my turtles. But, I don't keep turtles in with my fish. The sulfa shouldn't bother fish, though.

The calcium cannot be absorbed/assimilated by the turtles without vitamin D3 from supplements or direct sunshine.

oh ok vicedretard, lol.
would they work with a in-tank & canister?

hey estuary, would the cuttlebone get all mushy and grow bacteria after awhile?

reptileguy72727; does zoomed and reptomin pellets have calcium in it?

oddball, i'll try some mr. turtle blocks..what would happen if my turtle bites it though?
