I have an 8" cyano that is pretty much identical to your girl, but mine is a boy with a hump on his head. Imo cyanos are gorgious, but i wanted one of the other more colorfull texas. So 2 say carpinte, 1 says both, and 1 says cyano. I love this. Hghlndr85: it def helps if you have both. thanks. Do you have any juvie pics of both you could post so we can compare and learn the differences for ourselves? To everyone: thank you for your insight.

cyanos def have the advantage in my book more exotic looking

I believe yours to be a carpintis. Here are a few shots of mine:

all different fish. I believe it gets a little hardy defining the carpintis due the many variations/local.
IMO, carpintis looks better;).

Sorry on the bad pics; saving up for a new camera

Thanks for the pics calicichlid. It really helps to have something to look at to compare mine to. How soon before they start showing more color?

Picked up this little guy this morning at the lfs, who said he is a texas and didnt know whether he is cyano or carpintis. Hes alittle under 2" and I was hoping someone out there could tell me definitely one or the other. thanks.

Definitely Carpinte.... possibly Carpinte 'Lahillas' due to the facial spots, but impossibe to confirm.
