norfolk, ne
I know there are plenty of carpintes variants, but I was wondering about different variants of cyanos. I know of "cuatro cienegas" and "Laguna de Santa Tecla" other than the common cyanos. Is there any others?

I have the "Laguna de Santa Tecla" and have been told by the breeder that that fish and the "Cuatro Cienegas" are the same fish. They are from the breeder that has all the youtube vids.

I have these too, and can confrm that "Laguna de Santa Tecla" Cyano's are the same as "Cuatro Cienegas". "Laguna de Santa Tecla" is just a more accurate and specific description of the catch location Heres some pics of mine http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=315890 These are now back with my brother and i have a roup of 12 growing on.

For me I'd rather use the more specific location. Another name that is floating around is "Yellow Cyano" or "Yellow Texas". Jimmy, when are we gonna see some pics of the Macracanthum?

When they decide to grow some!!!! Hehe. They are still only small bro, only 2-3cm at most. They are very slow growers, even tho i feed them well and keep them in warm clean water. I have 7 left from an origional group of 10. I have read that they like slightly brackish water, so maybe thats where im going wrong.

Wow. I didn't know about cyano varients but assumed there is some. I don't know what mine is, but here's some pics of the little stud.:)

Yup, That is correct. To be really precise: This stock was collected from Laguna de Santa Tecla, near the town of Antiguos Del Norte in the Cuatro Cienegas Valley of Mexico. To my knowledge Rusty Wessel has the only remaining wild breeding colony. Im pretty sure that my pair is the oldest F1 pair that is around these days. my Extra F1 fish and the F2 fry have been sold through Jeff Rapps via my original colony and pair.

I think Rusty sent some F1 overseas and there are a few populations in the UK & possibly other European countries.

I have one that is supposed to be wild caught in mexico. Here is a pic or two. I started this thread because the cyanos I see that are caught first hand by the people keeping them have small round spots and no worming of spots.
