Cycle Question

If I upgrade from one tank to another but keep the same canister filter, do I need to cycle the tank?

I'm using the same live plants but new substrate.

If the stocking level of the tank is the same you my see a very small cycle but nothing that would harm the fish.

Some the tank will have BB living in it and on the substrate. However most of it will be living in the canister. So you should not have problems.

I would check ammonia and nitrites if you are planning to add more fish to the tank soon after. But again if the stock is left the same for a couple weeks i can't imagine you having any problems.

what are you upgrading to and from? congrates it's always fun to go bigger!

Cycle the tank the usuall way you do it...Having the canister already primed, only makes it easier for the tank to settle...Make sure to have the same amount of fishload you had in the old tank too.........

Thank you! I'm upgrading from a heavily planted 10g to a 30g, same fish and plants. I'll keep closely monitoring.

im doing the same thing this weekend,

moving from a 300ltr 4foot to a 600ltr 6foot, I have a massive new filter too but will be bringing the old filter along to kick start the cycle as im mixing up 250ltrs in a massive barrel for a day or two before adding to the new tank with the old water.
