So I bought a 75g tank about a month ago but did not have time to set up it.

So two days ago I am set it up as a bare bottom tank. So I removed all the gravel from the 75g and added water.

I had a penguin 330 that was on my 125g that I replaced about a week ago with another filter. So this filter sat out for about one and half weeks.

I just recently bought another tank with a penguin 350 that I took off. Only it was filthy, so I removed the carbon and intensely scrubbed the inside out and rinsed the bio wheels and put this on the 75g.

So the tank has been running for two days with a scrubbed out penguin 350 and a penguin 330 that sat for two weeks.

I checked my water params today out of curiosity and they read perfect
zeros across the board. :screwy:

I checked it again thinking something went wrong and it was perfect again.

I forget what kit I am using but it is the master kit liquid test.

Think its ok to add fish?

NO not unless you cycle it first or use some SeaChem "Stability"

the reason you have zeros is there is zero ammonia so there can't be anything to feed the bacteria that coverts Ammonia to NitrIte and with no NitrIte there is nothing to feed the bacteria that converts NitrIte to NitrAte, and so you see zeros all the way across...it would be like testing dechlorinated tap water...

You did use a dechlorinator right?

I wont add fish for another couple weeks then, just wasnt sure if it was possible the filters still had bacteria in them after the scrubbing of the one and the other sitting for a week

Also seems like whenever I do this process test usually has at least some ammonia

well I would def hold off on fish till you got things all good, It could be that your shrimp arent creating enough waste so you arent getting ammonia readings ang without ammonia you got no bacteria to make nitrites and nitrates.... Like the others said before me

Ok, take out the shrimp, read http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=207575 (there's anote in there as to why).

Remove the 2 wk old filter and clean it as everything in it is dead and and probably gone anaerobic.:nilly:, and hope you haven't poisoned the water too much.

Start over with the above formula and mark your calender, not your clock. ;)

Test your tap water to check your test lit and take a sample to your LFS to double check it.

And above all be patient.

wasnt live shrimp, market shrimp.. leftover food = ammonia was at least what I was thinking.

Either way I took it out and taking the shortcut method and stealing filter media from another tank and will go that way.

Thanks for the replys

Seeding is the best. Just make sure you are getting good bacteria that is not tainted with disease.
