diseased bacteria? thats new-----but like everyone else said if you do not add any ammonia then you detect no ammonia on your test. -------------------Try a search on fishless cycle.
It can happen if you take someones filter sponge gravel etc. Not exactly the bacteria that is disease carrying but the media itself. A handful of gravel could have god only knows what in it.
