- Cycling a 180 Litres Fishtank - Need some Advices and Help Here

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Today i was looking the Fish tank then i realized something had appeared around the suction cups from the thermometer and the heater.. never seen, take a look...

Cycling for a week now..

I would continue with the stability and stop dosing the ammonia as you have a source now.

My personal experience with stability is that it does work pretty good. A lot of people by reports were able to do a cycle in 7 days. My experience on my setups always takes around 12 days + or minus a day or two depending on the tank.

What was your source of ammonia originally ?
Did you shake the bottle really well ?

Stability Sucks man... Yes i always shake the bottle before dosing.. in 7 days didn't convert any ammonia to nitrite.. ill just use the feeders as source of ammonia now, i used household ammonia 10% NH3 in water solution. Not going to use anymore.. i already introduced filter material from a established fish tank, so shouldn't take too long to cycle this tank.. i also ordered Prodac Nitridac:

"A liquid high concentrate of non-toxic bacteria (40 million bacteria per ml) carefully selected for their capacity in breaking down organic matter and for transforming ammonia in aquariums. This product can be used in new or existing fresh and saltwater aquariums to transform highly toxic ammonia into nitrites and nitrites into nitrates. Nitridac actually causes the rapid degeneration of organic compounds reducing the build up of sediment or mud, restores aquarium walls and beds preventing the formation and growth of algae and also prevents an increase in nitrites."

Ill try this one next week if i dont see any changes in the ammonia or nitrite...

Most of those household ammonia products contain disinfectants and other toxins !

if you want to cycle via ammonia method you need pure ammonia !
This is why stability has most likely not worked, as the product you used is sterilizing the tank !
There is a product called ammonchlor which I know that is pure ammonia product that can be used to cycle tanks.

if you want to speed up the cycle use stability.

No man, the ammonia i used was 10% Nh3 in Water.. no disinfectants, and Stability sux! Thats based on my experience..
Anyways.. Tank still cycling

if you didn't get a small cloud for each cap full of stability, you didn't get it shaken up good enough

Yes, i got a cloud, and yes i was shaking well..

-----

Today i went to test the water again..

New water tests

ammonia: 0,8 ppm

nitrite: 0,8 ppm

nitrate: 25ppm

The Nitrite and Nitrate seems to be changing fast, i was hoping to see a nitrite peek before nitrate, would be that something to do with the introduction of filter media from a established tank?Or is part of the cycling process??
