Need more info.
What was creating the bio load to feed the BB?
or
was this tank sitting in the basement just running with nothing living in it?

it was running not too long ago then emptied do i need to cycle it again to get a bio load going? i have hang on back filters on other tanks that i change often along with canister filters its just been a while since ive set up a tank ha thanks for the help

With the information provided, sounds like you should just recycle your tank. I still am not sure if there are inhabitants in your current tank dedicating to feed the beneficial bacteria to colonize enough for a complete balanced nitrogen cycled tank.

Hope this helps.

Agreed, use some quick start or put in some cheap fish to cycle the tank
