I have a 125 gallon tank that has been set up for about 3 years. I am thinking of buying a 210 or 280 gallon tank. Can I keep from having to cycle it if I use the filters, sand, and some of the water from my existing tank? Would this be a good idea to atleast speed up the cycle?

If your transferring a cycled filter (you don't cycle the tank, just the filter, the tank is where the food for the filter resides), treat and / or age the new tank's water install the filter, test the water quality / adjust temp. and install the fish and your done.

if i was to setup up another 20gallon tank and i put a new second filter on my current tank how long would it take for the new filter to be ready to go in the new tank and it be completely cycled?

Age the water??? I have well water? I have never aged or treated? Do I need to?

would I also use the water out of the existing tank to continue feeding the bacteria in the filter?

Are you keeping the 125 or replacing it with the bigger tank ?
If replacing, put everything on/in the 125 into the bigger tank and just top off.
Sort of a free water change.
If adding the bigger tank and keeping the 125, the previous posts are sound, just make sure you leave enough on/in the 125 to prevent it going into a "mini" cycle.
Congrats. on the new tank. :) :)

If there are no harsh chemicals used to treat your well, your water may still be high in toxic metalloids and such. I would treat it lightly just to make sure. And check pH levels for sure.

How big is the current tank and how big is the bio-load?

If you have been using the well water (you kept that a secret and my crystal ball's batteries are dead) with success then no treatment is necessary (you know your water spec.s better than I).

You can use the existing water if you like, it will actually be a benefit. Also use some stress zyme type additive if your fish can have it.

All that worked for me. Using a seeded filter, and "good" water, I have started several tanks. So far so good. Check levels everyday and weekly w/c's. Seems like sometimes you can read to much into it. Good Luck and Enjoy!
