Cycling new tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Since you had all those gold fish in there I would take them out and do a major water change. From my experience when using media from the established tank you should not have to worry to much on cycling. I'd me more concerned contamination from the goldfish.

Ok, I'm having a difficult time deciding if you are being serious or just trolling. Your festae won't work long term in a 40 breeder, and arrowanas surely won't work long term either. Cycling using fish is not the best method either. If you're being serious then I would suggest you remove all fish from the tank and research how to perform a fishless cycle. If you used established media from another tank it should greatly shorten any cycle you experience if any. But a 40 gallon breeder tank is not going to be suitable for your festae or arrowanas.

I am being serious, the arowanna sharks will be leaving when the tank is cycled...how long do I have before the Festae will need to be moved to a bigger tank? Right now they are about 3.5 inchs. Once I get a pair the others will be leaving also...how big of a tank will they need

Not sure what a silver arrow shark is. I read silver arrowana, Since silver arrowana sharks don't exist. LOL. I don't want to tell you how big a tank the festae will need for sure as I may tell you wrong. But I believe you would need a 6 foot minimum for a breeding pair. I asked similar questions recently and found my tank was grossly undersized so I went a different direction. Remember festae males can reach 12" if I remember correctly, sometimes nearing 15". And they can be pretty aggressive. I would recommend a much bigger tank or get a different species. Good luck.
