So I'm in the process of getting ready to move some of the fish from my Armatus growout to the 300.

Problem- 2 Cynopotomus. I tried adding my Dorado shoal to the 300 a while back in "The Dorado experiment". Shortly after adding them a Cyno nailed the smallest Dorado exposing a good amount of flesh. So the Cynos have been kicking it together as the only fish in the 300.

Rather then just hucking a few Armatus in there I figured I'd see how the Cynos enjoyed the company of a fish that can't possibly be viewed as a feeder. Guessing Cynos to be 9 inch and the wc Silver Aro to be 10 inches.

So far not even a split fin. Been about 2 weeks. They are actually found within a few feet of eachother at all times.

As soon as I know the Armatus are too big to be pounced on they'll join these guys in the 300.

Interesting side note..... The Odoes that are in the Armatus growout didn't eat for weeks. Within 3 days of removing the Aro they ALL began eating regularly again. The whole time I thought it was the Armatus that were bothering them. Nope. It was the Aro. The Odoe and Armatus seem to be cohabbing peacefully. :headbang2

Some pics of the Aro and the Cynos.........

Thanks Ryan!

I don't kick myself very often for passing on fish, but IF I knew then what I know now, I would have taken every single Cyno G had off his hands.

My first true love is Armatus but the Cynos seem so much more active, tough, passive, less skitish and over all so much more manageable. These things are definetly THE Characin to have if you can't house Armatus, ATF, or Dorado. Said it before and I'll say it again most underated fish I've ever bought. Cross a Dorado/Brycon with a Payara and a Cyno would be the result. Not quite as active as Dorado, but easily twice as active as any Hydro species. True midwater and constantly pacing the tank back and forth.

We NEED to get someone to bring a group of these things in. I gaurentee those that pick some up will kick themselves for not doing so a long time ago.

Props to G for these beautiful fish!!!!

I've never seen a Cyno in flesh b4, they look beautiful!

I considered them everytime I went to Sharkaquarium and saw them,he had them for a while and when I decided to go and get them DB beat me to them. It's all good though,I know they are in good hands.

Nice! Aren't those fish aggresive? Nice arowana!

They are very aggressive to fish that are small enough to be considered food, but as far as fish too big to fit in their mouth, I've never even seen a tattered fin on any fish they've been housed with.

Time will tell.... I will be moving more of the growout fish in with them soon.

G had 8. Wonder what the chances are of being able to track down the other 6. :naughty::drool:

We SERIOUSLY need to get someone to bring a batch in. I'd give up almost any non ray fish in my house for more Cynos. I'd be perfectly happy with a tank full of Odoe and Cynos.

Maybe we need to get a list of potential buyers together to gauge interest to see if there is even enough to try to get a vendor to bring some in. :naughty:

I know these fish would be enjoyed by everyone that's sick of the BS involved with Hydros. The Tats grow too dam slow. Armatus are mean and get almost too big to be able to be manageable. Scombs we all know aren't even worth the time. Rhaphs just like all the Hydros are skiddish. Life with Cynos is just stress free easy going, no worry about random freakouts, picky eating, dying for no reason, lashing out on tankmates, smashed up faces, and they seem so passive that almost any tankmates of relevant size are accepted. I still love the Hydros, but man you can only put so many in the freezer before a small part of you begins hating all the stress involved with them.
