is 6.1 mp really low... and do you think a d40 with 18-55mm lens for 320 is a good deal?

Not a bad deal. I bought my D50 with 2 tamron lenses, case and macro lenses for $500.

so you think i should get it.....or should i save up and try to get a more expensive camera......also what does MP do and why is it better to have more....

6 mp is far and away enough for a casual shooter, the only needs for camera's with high Mp count is for close cropping, or huge landscape print's.

if you haven't shot a dslr before, there's no need to go further into the lineup than the entry level.

okay thanks....you guys have been a huge help

ive never had a dslr camera tho so i dont need something too intense just something to see if i like it......what does the auto focus lense do....and whats the advantage...does it just adjust to what your shooting

the entry level nikon's have the same auto focus setup, no focusing motor so they use only the newer AF-S type lenses, any other f-mount lens will be manual focus.

Biggest difference from D40 to D60 is MP. D80 has a wireless flash capability that the lower models don't . If it is a Nikon AF lens, it will fit on any of the DSLRs. they are designed to be interchangeable.

Just go with the D40, If you decide that it is not enough, then think about getting something a little higher. My D50 works great for me. One downside is not having the wireless flash, but its not worth the money to me.
