Has anyone had this combination with both fish full sized? I have both fish and would like to eventually put them in a 4' 120 gallon.

I have both right now in a standard 55 and they get along pretty well, the EBJD sometimes flares at the NGT, but the NGT just ignores it. I know they both will grow very slowly, and the EBJD is at about 2.5" and the NGT at 3.5"-4" both eating market shrimp and bloodworms. The NGT also gets mosquito fish as a treat.

It would most likely be just the two of them, a few smaller bichirs and maybe a small school of syno. multis.

Anybody have any insight or experience on this?

Thanks.

I've a normal 6-7" Jd with a 5" NGT (and other fish). JD occasinallly nudges the NGT thats all-a time will come in the future when the NGT is bigger however...:naughty:

I have 8 inch \EBJD and 6 inch NGT. both get on fine, but I have 7 other tigers to spread agrression.
EBDJ grow twice as fast as NGT.

WOuld move both to bigger tank and add more dither fish sooner rather than later

Is the EBJD about as aggressive as a regular dempsey? If so, provide some extra cover for the dat. When it gets bigger than you won't have any problems. If they are the only two fish then the dat may be the ebjd's only target. Like Ade said put some extra fish in there.

There are dithers in there now, a retarded faced black acei, a smallish bluegill and a pictus cat. I don't really like the looks of any of these guys.

What would you suggest as dithers? Our water is very hard and nearly 8.4 pH so no blackwater species. What about Rainbowfish or Male Malawi Peacocks?

Wow, that looks like a great combo.

What are the tank dimensions and the flagtail's size?

Love the green on your blue dempsey.

The EBJD's aren't supposed to be as aggressive as standard JD's, but i don't see why. I mean, they're the same species of fish, so you'd think they'd be equally aggressive, but i guess it all depends on the fish. In the long run though, i'm kinda worried about the EBJD, the time the NGT gets full grown (i know i could be long dead by then;)) it will have a good 6" on the EBJD.

FT is about 7 inch. Tank size is 60 x 20 wide x 24 high = 100G

I find the BJD , is not a bulley, but if another fish aquares up, he will hold his own ground...or water in their case. lol.

I 'm more worried , when my BJD squares up to the 8 inch zaire frontosa. they have lock jaw battles...

I think scats make great dither fish. Nice looking and greedy eaters that encourages the dat to eat.
