:D what kind of fish get along with jack demspesys

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Well i have jds with oscars green terrors texas. It depends on the fishes temperaments. For me i try a pass or fail test and as soon as consistent lip locking start i remove the less dominant fish. Try rearranging decor so they can establish new territory. Or introduce them all at the same time. U can also spread out aggression with dithers ive had my luck with barbs and dollars. Best if luck

In nature in the cenotes of Mexico where I have seen the most successful populations of Jack Dempseys, other cichlids are in the minority. The most prominent other species are Poecilia sp mollies and Rhamdia catfish.
Here is a video of cenote Cristalino. When other cichlids are present the JDs are few and far between.

Space is going to be your determining factor here.

I currently have my JD in with a con and dithers in a 56g for your interest, not long term though

Maybe a pike, peacock bass, flowerhorn, or large arowana....that is only if they don't eat the Dempsey. Also a pleco but they are boring.

I would not go with any of these suggestions for a JD except the pleco. Reptileguy needs to do allot more research.

Depending on tank size you can do, Severum, Green Terror, Oscar, Firemouths, Convicts, Salvini. Obviously not all of them.

Currently have mine with a nasty Wild Caught Oscar and a Juvenile Managuens and a few firemouths. Either the managuense or the Wild O will be re homed when they get bigger I am not sure which yet.

My 8inch jd is with red devil, oscar, jaguar, red Texas, Texas, flowerhorn, scat, parrot, severum etc
