Well, my house's temp was in the 50-60 range and I have to use 2 300 watts heater on my 300. Electric bill for the tank stands about 60 bucks a month...Be really mindful of your budget Andrew...

The OP lives in New Jersey and you live in Cali. New Jersey's winters gets way colder then where you are. His winters gets nearly as cold as west coast Canada's winters. Definitely need more then 1000 watts for heaters. If less wattage his heaters will run 24/7.

Yup agree, I was the same now I have 30+ 100G tanks and a 1000$ bill to pay, look into getting insulation and a cheap room heater much cheaper according to my maths and other aussie with rooms like mine. not sure how jersey works but down here summer is so hit we can just discount our heaters and leave a door open.

as for the stock, I dont like it personally but it is up to you, I would go with rays, arows, rtc etc or umbee and dovii and jags would be sweet but I dont think it would work the best I can see the umbee taking the tank over once his full grown!

One advantage I can see with going cement is you can build a brick wall around it which will add some insulation, normal red bricks are r rated of 0.7 so better then wood then u can add roll insulation and a 2nd row of bricks even which would do a good job not as good as insulating the whole room but sometimes thats a costly/hard job. or just leave it open and pay higher bills.

I agree with what every one has said, you really don't notice how much change your monster tank costs till you actually have it up and running... i know my tanks take up a big chunk of my electricity bills each month with UV sterilizers etc running basically 24/7... Also food prices will start to add up real quick too depending on the type of stock you ultimately choose... seafood diet any one?

Personally i would choose different stock to yours, but if thats what you really like, i say its up to you... the only thing i would worry about is with so many paired up fish, what will you do with the fish fry if they survive? also, how are you going to prevent them from fighting when they do start pairing up?

Coz even though your tank will be very large, i have a feeling you may end up with a lot of aggression issues, and possible deaths if all the fish you buy pair up and start breeding...

Go with what stock you want, you don't have to listen to someone telling you something is better. And with pairs all these fish Andrew you are going to need more room for all the stock they will produce. And we all know that just leads to just another tank lol

I dont think aggression will be to bad to the point of death, none of these fish are the kind of fish I would say are killers. sure they could but I dont think in a tank this size it will occur, I can see ripped fins etc but none dead.

I dont think there is much chance of raising the fry other then what the parents can do, how would u catch them for one, u might get a few with enough attempts but not the whole lot lol.

RTC no good !

Cost is not really of the issue. My house has built a built in heater and ac system. In winter my house is at a steady 76 degrees in summer my house is at a steady 65 degrees. I currently have 4 running tanks, so I know the rough cost of elecricity. When I set up this tank I will keep the 55 running. So for any fry I get I can put in there. Any fry I get I will raise and either sell, trade,or raise. My dad has no issue with my electric bill. My current running tanks I believe are costing around $100 a month. It is a 55,15,10, and 2 gallon fish tank. All tanks except the 2 have overrated filters, heaters, and lights. So electric bill and heating is not a problem. All i really wanted to know is if the stock is big enough for my stock. Once again rough dimensions are 124"long X 34" wide X 31" high. Is this footprint big enough for my stock? If there will still be a lot of room on top of all this stock, what is another good fish to add? I was thinking maybe a lone dovii or umbee? How about a midas? Thanks

-Andrew

Im in the same boat as you, trying to convince my parents for a bigger tank for my oscar and other cichlids.. Id say the stock above is good, but i would definatly ditch the convicts, and if u want to breed them just put them in a 20 gallon. The pair of jags or sometimes even a lone jag could be too agressive, same with a dovii. I would have the oscars, jack dempseys, silver arowana, 2 peacock bass or a clown knife
