There has been many threads about eating your tropical fish.I lost a big arapaima that committed suicide by going from 0 to 80 and hit the other side of the tank and killed himself. My wife had just moved from Manaus,Brazil and begged to eat it.After crying all day I said yes.She cook it and started to eat it and stop. She said it didn't taste good and it didn't taste like the pima's she caught in the rivers.

It's probably just the natural reaction by people not knowing what to say when they see anything larger than a guppy in a tank!

I get it a lot.

I do point out that most of mine probably are eaten as food in their native environment if they want to try them, but wouldn't recommend eating mine as all the added chemicals in the water which come with having a tank make them taste like crap.

Got a cousin in Australia that ended up with a tank full of yabbies because he and his wife got them in ready to go with Christmas dinner. Threw them in a tank full of treated tap water, tried one a couple of days later to see what they were like and found all the chemicals completely ruined the taste and left them tasting....well, chemically!

there was a guy on here with who built an indoor pond who ate his pacu and a catfish. if i remember rightly because they were being a nuisance to other tankmates lol. the fish were native in the country and he said they were regularly sold in the market so why not. its one of the diy builds. he said it tasted fine.

although i use the,.. they would taste bad because of the chemicals line.

Great looking oscars!

I always like when you can see whats on the menu.. err.. I mean when people post pics of their fish.

Interesting outcome, could it possibly be your wife started to feel somewhat guilty after eating the pet fish and lost her appetite,or maybe the fish's captive diet had something to do with the different flavor of it's flesh?

My brother has said plenty of times that he would love to eat my fish so i called his bluff and said if he can get my male dovii out of the tank using nothing but his hands he can eat him. he decided against it
