Remember a few things when it comes to bichirs... Sticker shock may scare the daylights out of you, but remember this is NOT a fish that will get ick and die in a week like a guppy. They are very hardy and can tolerate many different types of water. They live for a long time in captivity, and in my opinion, that makes them a good investment.
Also, there are a lot worse things in the world to spend money on. There are worse hobbies, and worse things to be involved and interested in. You COULD be out there blowin that $75 on drugs or doing other things to ruin your life.
