2 nigers good or is that overduing it?

I have seen multiple Nigers is a tank before, I would think once they get mature there will be territory wars in a 40g, just my 2 pennies I would add them at the same time and make sure they are both juveys. They will outgrow a 40 over time, they get to be 15+ inches max

well i added one niger trigger and one 4 striped damsel. so far so good all of them ate right away and are doing real well. thinking of adding some clowns an anenome or two and also a wrasse. whats the max number of fish i should put in m tank?

After a week or two, you could add the pair of clowns, then a week later a wrasse. That is where I would stop. I would forget the anenome until your tank is more mature and stable. Clowns do not need them and its a 50-50 chance they will even snug up to it anyways. If the water is not perfect, or the light or current they will die and when they die they can crash a whole tank they get that nasty when they croak!
