Picked up a pair of hystrix recently and one started to show a dark area on its back. It was first visible late sunday, and grows a little larger each day. The first picture was taken tuesday, the second was taken yesterday. Any idea what is causing it? This ray is less active than the other, but eats well.

Never seen that before, looks like a water stain LOL. As long as it is not raising up off the skin and does not turn white I would just observe it right now.

For now the dark area isn't raised up. Seems that as it spreads, the center where it originated has returned to the normal color. Hope it's not some type of infection.

Looks like patchy marks that used to appear on my newborn motoro pups. It faded and went away with age

Just my opinion, hopefully its no big deal

Almost looks like a bruise and progressing in a similar way to how it would in a human?

You might be right. This ray had a bumpy ride- he was upside down and almost out of water when I opened the box.

Nice to see you picked up another pair. From Pedro? Not sure on the stain looking issue though. Hope all is well with it.

Thanks. Yes, from Pedro.
