I have been checking out substrates on the net and one caught my eye. It is a black substrate(pebbles) do you think this would be ok. I had sand in the tank before but the tank always looked cloudy and hard to clean.

Substrate is a personal thing really, whatever you like best. I've used a lot of different things, but I like pool filter sand best for it's low cost, being fairly clean out of the bag, and the fact that debris sit on top where they are easily removed. Here's a picture I took of my newest setup for another thread the other day. The substrate is pool filter sand that cost $8.00 per 50lbs. Anyway, I'm sure the black pebbles would be fine with regular vacs.

lighter colored substrate bleached (changed the color lighter) out my african knike fish. so with black fish i would go darker, however not to dark cuz they will disapear.

We have both dark (black gravel) and light (Crusher coral and stone) substraits. Each has it's own special look and feel to it.

Plants stand out much better in a black sub...
