carbon in the filters gives the water a more "clean" look, if your shooting for darker water, there is a product (cant recall the name right now) that you can get from any pet store and you can put it in (read instructions) and it will give your water a murkyer effect. like amazon type. water will go a bit browner etc... ive never used this product before. if you do plan on using it make sure take the carbon out of your filter because it will just catch all this and what not. if you want to dim your lights grab some white hockey tape, and double layer the light, i did this on my old tank and it brought the brightness down

it's tannin, which softens the water and makes it appear "tea" like.

naturally, it's the decaying leaves of the tropical forest that ends up in the riverbed.

I believe aquarium peat or driftwood will do the trick in your tank.

ok but whay if it gets 2 hot wont the white hockey tape melt ore some **** .,.
oki i will try can yo find out what the produkt calld .,.,

blackwater extract is complete garbage..... trust me- it last for about 3 days even without carbon in the filter... get some peat granules and a mesh bag to pour them into... after that you just need some room in a filter to set the filled bag in and presto... you will have murky brown/yellow water! it also helps to soften the water and lower ph..... oh yeah- take out the carbon in your filter- it ends up doing your water more harm than good-
