I have a little 1 1/2" Albino Oscar that I picked up from Wal-mart cause they had him in a tank with some larger Africans, he looked healthy but his fins were getting fairly tattered. So I felt sorry for him and brought him home. I put the little guy into my 10 gal with a few of my guppies. After a couple days he was swimming around happy, not shy anymore, chasing the guppies and eating anything I put in the tank. Already it looks like his fins are healing up nicely, but also they are getting a dark tint to them, what is this?

Water params,
Ammonia=0
Nitrite=0
Nitrate=20 and under

Thanks for the help

well, you said he was healing well so i take this to believe that he is adapting to his new home and Less stress means that he is coming out of his shell so to speak..............He is coloring up!!...............which is very good!!.................just continue providing quality water, quality food, and in due time an appropriate sized tank, and you should be golden!! good luck!!:) :)

....................You got an Oscar with guppies...................Tonight you will most likely have an oscar with an oscar!!!!!!! Single occupancy!!!:) :nilly:

Actually the 5 guppies that he was with are now, GONE, go figure, but I knew that was going to happen. Let alone I dont have another place to put him at the moment.

Could the darkening be because he is a Lutino(if I spelled that right)?

I have no clue what a Lutino Oscar is, wish I could help!!!

EDIT..............do you mean Albino???

Sometimes they just change like humans.. Mood or favorite shirt .. :D My personal opinion of course :D

No I meant to say Lutino. Someone over at oscarfish.com told me, said that is what kind of albino he is a Lutino, which the edges of their fines darken. Like you I have never heard of it before.

I know my Red Oscar used to change all the time, but with my other Albino that I have, which I have had for over a year now, never changes.

I have seen varying amounts of black in the fins of albino oscars at the local wal mart. Mostly in the dorsal, caudal, and anal fins. On close inspection it looks like a bunch of very fine black spots.
