I recently purchased a large apple snail, but now the thing wont move. it did its thing for a day or so and now it has just been sitting in the same spot for a week now. Im pretty sure its not dead because its shell opening is some times slightly open and sometimes its completely shut. Anyone know what is goin on?

Apple snails sometimes act like that and can have brief periods of dormancy. Keep monitoring it. You can also detect that it is dead if it has a nasty smell.

Yes, if it is in fact dead, it will smell terrible. Dead mollusks are definitely one of the worst smells around (I've heard anemones are even worse than snails)

sounds like it's dead. I lost two in a similar way

I disagree, they have both lungs and gills. they do not need to move to breath.

What is your stock? is it possible anything is harassing it? What are you feeding?

i have hard water not sure exactly but no ammonia, or nitrites, very low nitrates, 8.2ph, 82 degrees, I have 2 african cichlid, 1 pearl gourami, 2 columbian shark catfish, and 1 clown loach in a 55gal tank, it still looks alive cuz it doesn't stay in the exact place but it doesnt move far nor does the tank smell. I thought about the loach but it doesnt look like it notice it and the snail is bigger than the loach. (I had 2 small white snails and they both died in like a week i think the loach got to them.)

oh ya and im feeding sinking shrimp pellets as well as tetra fish flakes with the occasional brine shrimp cube
