Dat feeding

So im trying blood worms (frozen, then thawed out) and dried krill. Seems as tho he is totaly not intrested. At the moment he is in the tank by him self + a 5" pleco. I was thinking he needs a few tank mates that eat well to show him the that what I am putting in there is actually food.. true? Would it help if the blood worms were live?

The LFS I got him from fed him feeder guppies so he is totaly hooked on those things. I only got a few of them, to supliment while starting the diet change, and inspected them before putting them in. He seemed to eat them at night. So I have started feeding him at night only and truning off the lights earlier, to try to make him feal more at ease. The next morning the food is gone but I cant tell if my pleco is eating the food or not. I know my other Plecos eat my Cichlid pelts in other tanks.

His color is good and not washed out in anyway, so stable from what I read... I'm concerned that if he hasnt been eating what I'v put in the tank and it has been the pleco, then he hasen't eaten in about a week.

Any suggestions on how to kick off the detox of guppies in a young dat?

Thanks for all your help guys!

more than likely the plec is eating the food at night. Get the ntt nice and fat with feeders. Then no more feeders. Just feed him anything but live. He'll soon get hungry but it can take up to 3-4 weeks before he goes for the new food.

Good luck . U either tough it out , or your tiger willnever get off lve food. Good luck .

Thanks Ade! its good to know what to expect and what the dat should be able to handle when attempting a diet change.

All your help and advice is much appreciated! :)

Hey bro I got my little NTT 2 weeks ago and I've already got it on live foods and I didn't have to starve it at all. What I did was throw him in a tank full of other fast eating fish that were already on the pellets and frozen foods. After two days he started coming out of his cave and tried to eat but easily out competed. Then I cut up some market prawn into bite size pieces and literally moved the food in front of him which he happily snapped up about 5 small pieces. After 5 days of that I started cutting smaller pieces of MP and taking hikari sinking carnivore pellets (soaked them to soften them up) then wrap the thin pieces of shrimp on them. He gobbled these up when I put the food in front of him too. After 2 days I just put the pellets in his face and he downed them. I know it's a real chore to have to put the food in front of him but it teaches them that the pellets are food and to eat 'em as fast possible. I swear he looks a lot bigger now after just 2 weeks of downing dry and frozen foods. Hope this helps.

P.S. I might've just gotten lucky and bought a NTT that will down anything lol so don't shoot me if it doesn't work :X. Having a lot of competition does help them get the urge to eat.

EAT OR DIE THATS THE RULES

no messing around with feeders they are not need

So... update. Two days ago for the first time he ate freeze dried krill, then again yesterday... I was so happy. Whats it been almost 2.5 months since I posted this question? Anyway, my dat is a stuborn one... i tried everything that you guys suggested... and the thing that finnaly worked was "eat or die".... He was in a tank with other cichlids (very fast eating) and I would switch feeding with pellets krill and frozen bloodworms.. after about 1.5 months of not eating he finnaly took 2 freeze dried krill quickly. The next day the same thing happend. He is a supper fast eater when he knows that the stuff in the water is actualy food!

Thanks for all your input and help guys!

that's great news rob. Well done. Most people freak out when their tiger hasn't eaten for 2-3 weeks.
My old ngt took 7 months before he ate prawn. During that time I fed 1 cube of bloodworm per month for him. I'm sure if I didn't feed the bloodworm, he would have converted in 2 - 3 months...

Thanks Ade,

Now to get him on pellets. Im going to let him get fat on the krill first, make sure hes healthy then try the same method.

if you want a diet change u have to resist feeding them feeders. feeding them feeders and trying to change thier diet would never work. they will only go for feeders if they see them swimming around. plus its okay to starve them. they will give in to the food you want them to eat when u starve them. well hope that helps you.
