yup raw everything... i get a pound of raw shrimp and take off the entire shell and freeze it all. if anyone knows of a good way to keep the shrimp without having to practically use a sawzall to get a piece after it freezes let me know:D.

cut/prep them however you want.. put a piece of plastic food wrap/saran wrap on a cookie sheet/pizzabox/plate/cuttingboard/whatever is flat and fits in the freezer.... put the pieces on the food wrap but dont let them touch.. toss it in the freezer for a few hours then just dump them in a freezer bag and keep them frozen... a good wack on the counter will crumble the block..

you can skip the saran wrap step and just single layer them in a freezer bag.. then just wack it with a hammer to break it apart...

in my freezer it takes about 8 weeks for ice crystals to start growing on everything... this qualifys as freezer burn and it does change the flavor a bit.. picky fish might stop eating it at this point.. but $5 and 20 minutes of "work" for a pound or more of food its ok if a few bits get thrown away..

thanks man... after i wrote that i really thought about it and yesterday i put them in a freezer bag and pressed it down like they do with frozen krill packs.
and i never thought about the being freezer burnt they wont touch it. my pbass was eating the tilapia but now wont. not totally freezer burnt, but it's not that fresh either.

when its all in one big block it does not freezerburn as easily.. but once you mash it into bits it does not take long... im halfway through a bag of krill and my fish are starting to reject pieces from time to time..

i need to make smaller batches or get bigger fish...
