Not sure about the effects of copper on live plants as I have yet to step into that realm of the hobby.I can't blame you for being concerned though as some set ups that I have seen are really impressive.

I prefer to think of mine as...fish friendly rather than impressive haha, just a mess of random plants in floramax and sand hahaha. fish love it though lol

I picked up copper safe today just to run as a preventative in the future, I also picked up some general cure for parasites. I did a 30% water change and I'm going to dose the tank tonight. My fingers are crossed thankfully my girlfriend got him to eat some small pieces of shrimp this morning so we'll see how it goes.
