dats are known for their loyalty and willingness to be held by their owner ;) most dats remain motionless when held out of water.
while, some with personality will play with you. My big IT was yawning like "comon, get this done already " , and his gill plates actually cut my hands and drew blood. But no big deal, just means you have a closer relationship with your fish :)

 not mine...

oh I've seen that one many times. His is very interesting. As it is definitely ST body shape, and I even want to say it is a little short body. I can tell you though, mine is definitely longer, but his is definitely higher and thicker :)

yeah i think i was mistaken, i couldnt really get a look at his profile view because it wouldn't move, but i was going by the logic that if his is that much taller than yours, its got to be longer too

a VERY impressive fish nonetheless

now thats a sight to see
how many years did it take to reach that size, and at what size did u pick that beast

if i remember right about the dates. about a little more than 2.5 years ago, I saw this guy for sale at a lfs , and the lfs owner said its his fish that he grew up for 5+yrs and that was about 15". About a month later, it somehow ended up to a fellow member on this site ( milokai), and he sold it to me. And now, after countless bags of massivore and costco tilapia fillets, at a impressively proud 21" .

so, my guess would be 7-8yrs? :)
*note to all you baby dat growers out there , take good care of them and they can be with you for a long while : )
