just curious to the guys keeping their fish at 86* and up... why? i can't imagine anywhere in the world where the water is that warm.

I keep mine at 80* and they seem fine.

The way I see it, these dats come from SouthEast Asia where temps regularly hit 95 degrees and humidity is very high. They can handle high temp and their natural environment has higher temp water like that. I used to keep dats at lower temps (80) but they get diseases easily when they're under 2 inches. The warmer water makes them more active, prevents disease (I've never had an ich problem after keeping the temp up to 87) and makes them grow faster. At lower temps IME, they hide a lot more and eat less.

Keep the water clean, give them a varied diet, plenty of hiding spots/territories, and keep temperature from 78F-84F

Just keep it simple.

My dat strive at 30C. He is quite stable but always hidden on the side of the tank.

I actually dont have any hidding spots and they come out when I get to the front of the glass...
