Dat missing an eye - euthanize?

perfect! nice clean wound, just stolen right out of the socket! chanses are good he'll be just fine! I have seen much worse and they made it!

I have a dat with both sides blinded and he lives fine and eats more than some of my other dats so keep yours, he'll be fine.

I was given a dat with one eye and was never told what happened to the eye but the dat is fine without it.You get used to it after a while,they have big eyes so I guess it could have gotten injured during one of its dashes through the tank.My little NGTseems to have injured its eye,it looks like a scratch on the surface sometimes it heals but it depends on the severity of the damage.

i have had an african cichlid that was really aggressive, and he had an eye taken out. the first week was rough.. but keep your water pristine, and i dont know anything about dats, but in africans i would add salt, and maybe some melafix or pimafix just so a secondary infection doesnt set in that eye, killing him.

just keep your water nice and clean til it heals over.. he should be okay.

I'm draining the tank right now (it takes a while) and he started moving around from end to end of the tank. So that's good. But he also seems to be unable to resist the current that comes up from me cleaning the glass, which is bad. This tank gets a lot of salt anyway but I'll add extra when I refill it and hopefully he'll be happier.

I've had a few one eyed fish over the years but only small ones, all have done ok, I've no dat experience but I wish you luck and hope he pulls through

Yeah move the dat to be safe....I have the same fish you have go around and rip out eyes. I would put feeders in and that was the first thing he wanted EYES!!!!!! Weird i thought. Then one day he lost his..lol But now the socket has skin grown right over the whole hole and thats what going to happen to the dat if he makes it. GL

I have a 10" ST with only have 1 eye on the right side and the left side is totally gone. It's still active and I train him to feed from my hand so he'll get some food that it need or the other fish would take the food.

Here he is left eye is totally gone. He's still active and can even chases some feeder midas cichlid.

My other dats all seem depressed.

I guess it could be the water temp, though (as referenced in my other thread about stealth heaters being pieces of junk).
