Sorry I couldnt find the right place to post this, but.. I noticed that some peoples dats are shy and whatnot. Ive only had 1 dat before and it was pretty much like a flowerhorn in attitude. Does your dat hide when you walk up to the tank or does it attack your fingers?

depends on the personality i guess.
mine hid for a few days, and i got a nice ass piece of driftwood.
after that, i'd see him swimming against the powerhead , and he became really bright in yellow.

Most fish will be more comfortable with some cover in their enviroment.

Myabe I got lucky with that dat, I regret selling it to this day. When I bought it, it was punking every large fish in the tank, it was the smallest fish.

Mine quickly dives into one of his two favorite caves and then pokes his head out begging for food. But normally he is out and about being a punk.

Mine hides, but when it comes to food he has some compitition with a barramundi so hes quick

Mine are always swimming around, back & forth, with the other dats, but sometimes they just stay in the back and change their color to camoflage in with the background.

Size has a lot to do with it also. Under 6 inches they usually are very shy, hiding under the rocks etc.. 7 ,8 above, is when they start swimming about in the open
