Hey guys, im in need of desperate help!!!

im asking for my father so if i leave out information i apologize, i dont live with him so i dont see his datnoid that often........
my father says....
"Since the last water change, he's been hiding more, not eating as well and his color has darkened up there's no visible signs of fungus or anything else water temp is just over 80 deg. ph is 8.0 salt level is 1.010. "

the fish is a about 1.5" and has been in a brackish setup becuase my parents have scats, the LFS said this is fine for him before they purchased him, i ASSUME the nitrates nitrites and ammonia levels are fine... they went to get test strips today.... i know the tank finished cycling just before they added him they have a bio wheel filter going along with a marine land canister filter (c-series)

they have 3 scats and the datnoid in a 36g growout

im not quite sure what to do since i've never had datnoids....

if need be he can go into my tank if he needs freshwater (temporarily) my parameters are (ph 7.4, nitrates nitrites low, ammonia 0
my tank might be a lil over stocked one he is in there but the water parameters are good,

please guys any advice and suggestions will be greatly apreciated

Well what species of Dat is it? Only 2 of the 5 our found in brackish conditions in the wild. So their is a good chance that is the problem.

Also does your father condition the water before he adds it?

One last though. Is it new? was this its first water change experience in this tank? It may just be scared.

hey, this is a picture of him, im not sure what kind he is exactly, i wouldnt be suprised if he is infact a freshwater fish, please dont blame my parents on that the LFS suggested this setup for the fish, they have had him for a little over a month in brackish and he's been fine, not shy ate well, i got off the phone with them some of the parameters are this: nitrate -20.nitrite- .05 ph -7.5, carbonate -180, hardiness -120.....and i do beleive he conditions the water before he adds it

thanks for your patience guys,

thtas an Indo (and a damn nice one too) and it really shouldn't be in brackish if possible-despite what the LFS said. I'd look to acclimatise it to fresh

Yea unfortunetly LFS's seem to have a lack of knowledge about Datnoids, and are always giving out wrong info. Max size, brackish or fresh, species name.

IT's should be in Fresh

If they like dats and want to keep one in the brackish set up tell them to look into NGT and AT.

alright cool, im almost positive they'll be making a better home for him.....

but for now, can we put him in my freshwater SA/CA tank? is it ok for him to be acclimated that quickly into a freshwater setting from being in brackish until my parents tank is better suited or if they just get a new tank and till its cycled? then put him in their new freshwater tank? i have a 55G with and my largest fish in there right now is a 4" EBJD..... the tank is not overstocked by anymeans

so priority is the datnoid, for them, so any suggestions would be great, and you guys have been great with your suggestions

thanks again, it means alot

bought about 10 indos from a LFS with BRACKISH tanks... the dats were acclimated that day to freshwater.... Go fresh or go home.

I have five 3-4" indo dats in with my6 Geophagus tapajos red heads... and 2 geophagus dicrozoster... no problems... but the dats are either bigger or same size as cichlids... should be good, just keep an eye out. its in a 90G tho.
