I was thinking about purchasing my first dat . I want to get a NGT . But i was wondering if it would do ok alone with maybe some sort of pleco . or do they do best with others ? Thanks in advance .

NGT are known to be the most aggressive Dat. Especially with other NGT, so I would suggest a single NGT unless you can get 2 at a fairly large size difference.

Dats in general are peaceful to other species of fish that they cannot fit in their mouths. Pleco should be fine.

Good Luck!

U want to get a NGT as ur first tiger??

I would start with a cheaper tiger (Indo, Silver) then work up to a NGT if I was u...
But the choice is urs..

Dats are pretty aggressive with each other. You need to have a single Dat or a group of Dats to spread the aggression. They are relatively peaceful with other fish as long as they can't eat them.

The NGT's are great tigers, but they are more aggressive, and much more finicky with food. They dont always switch to frozen or freeze dried as easily as some of the other species out there, before buying one I would ask to see it eat. I've kept them with other dats and had three in the tank at one time, but they are picky eaters and didnt compete to well for food, just takes time for them to adjust.

Thanks for all the replies . Just a few more newbe questions . What size tank would one need to live in for life ? Would it be bad to feed it live food alot ? Does anyone know where i can get a NGT between the 2" and 4" range . Also if your wondering about the live food , im not talking about gold fish feeders . I go out and catch bull minnows and crawfish in the local swamps and canals . Thanks in advance .

It is always better to be off live foods. If bought at the size you want, you should be able to introduce prepared foods without to much trouble. As far as the tank size, NGT get about 14" when fully grown, so that should give you an idea what size tank you need.

Where did you read that 14" was the adult size? I havent seen many in captivity that got too big, but there are wild pics of some that were at least 18" and maybe bigger. Unless i was dreaming..LOL

Correction, the pic i was referring to was measured at 16". So i was dreaming.lol
