One of the datinoides polota I keep has severe bloat, it's eyes have turned cloudy and are bulging, and the fish is pretty badly bloated up.

What can be done here, he wouldn't eat any peas.

Ive read on the site to try salt and see if that helps him. Parameters ok?

I have also read that polota thrives better in brackish water, later in life. Otherwise susceptible to all sorts of nasty disease/ parasites etc.
These fish were caught hundreds of kilometres inland, West Bengal to be precise.

I've also read that too many peas are bad for their stomach. Legumes in general.

This was one of the threads that went more into detail on some of the issues that happened as the polota would get older.

I’m not disputing the collection point, just sharing what some others seem to have discovered. What you are experiencing may have nothing to do with salt in the water, but if it is I want to share this.

Years ago. Had a fat 10” silver dat I grew out from a small size. It likely died from bloat, or symptoms of excessive overeating. This was in pure freshwater. In fact. None of my silvers made it past 7-8” prior in fresh either. Call me unlucky. Lol. Regarding the 10” silver. Eyes were fine on this one, but had some buyouncy issues before passing. Swimming like in a quick up and down movements.

Now have a 9” silver in 1.5 cup of salt per 100 gallons. With my other Dat specie. No issues thus far.

Agree with RD but this is kind of obvious so Jib knows this... which makes me wonder if there is more to the story...

My 10"-12"-er featured in the thread Matteus linked above has a huge tummy and huge appetite too and also has always been in freshwater. I wonder if what you are describing will happen with mine too. How long has your 10"-er lived?

No matter how obvious or experienced one can still overlook the simplest solutions.
