Datnoid cannibals?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
If they get eaten you can sue all who said that they wouldn't.

Little ones are safe. They actually went straight to the big one and stuck beside him for a bit. Let's just hope I don't come home later and they're gone. And yes they presented their stripes. Big one didn't bother.

Interesting, perhaps in the wild dats look after their offspring for some period of time.

I have often found the little ones go near the big ones and use them as shields

Cool behaviour.

Yes it is.

The little ones have pretty much kept their stripes nicely since joining the big one. They get pretty spooked by my FRT but otherwise seem better in the larger tank.

Your a brave guy keeping FRT with small fish.
Has turtle shown any interest in the other fish.? I think a big big tank helps reduce chance of frt being naughty

My FRT has never shown interest in small fish. He eats floating pellets and a lot of fruit. Before the baby Dats I've had feeders in there and he ignores them. Goes nuts over apples and pears though.

I have been keeping 16 dats for more than 1 year. Last year size: the smallest about 7 cm, the largest 20 cm. I put them in 1 aquarium for about 3 months. Never lost one.
Then I put 11 dats ranging about 7cm - 15 cm in 1 aquarium with 35 cm golden red arowana, and 5 dats ranging abouyt 15 - 20 cm with 50 cm super red arowana. Again, I never lost a single dats until now.
Now, I guess the smallest is about 12cm, the largest is 25 cm.

I guess they are not cannibals.
