I have some datnoids and i was wondering since im new to having them. and i was curious what are water temps have to be also what does the ph level
also i have some questions one of them is using the tank to hold its self up and i wanted to know if that was normal? since i have never had them before i couldn't tell what the problem might be. And one of them is like scraping their side against the substrate of the tank and i wanted to know if that was normal or if its the Gill worms they can get??

Any advice would be Greatly appreciated thank you for your time

  • Water temperature: 80F- 84F.
  • pH: alkaline (>7), but pH doesn't really matter as long as the pH is stable.
  • Datnoids laying against the tank is normal, as long as the datnoid is healthy and eating you're fine. Datnoids will sometimes stand head down completely vertical at night, and some datnoids even lay on their sides.
  • Datnoids will occasionally scratch themselves even if they don't have flukes. If these are new datnoids I suggest prazipro to deworm them, remember datnoids are wild- caught and they might have parasites.
  • Also I suggest converting them onto pellets ASAP, the younger they are the easier it is to convert.
  • Remember that minimum datnoids to have is around 4, unless its NGT then just one. I'm assuming you have indonesian datnoids.

Sorry if this is off topic but can you mix NGTs with other dats? Or none at all

Yes you can, but rule of thumb is 4 minimum to spread out aggression. They will still be chasing, but nothing major. BUT you cannot mix NGTs with other NGTs, there will be fighting to the death.

NGTS with other dats= fine
NGT + NGT= 1 surviving NGT

THANK YOU lol only one who told me some thing haha but i have three right now they are all healthy but the problem is they are with the peacocks and i couldn't tell if they ate i am actually starving them to feed them pellets but i have a question What kind of pellets do i have to feed them?? cause my LFS has a wide range of things i can sell them. And the dat seems to be fine i mean the other two come by and he swims with them and looks to be fine and for the worm problem i actually did a 1/3 water change added some prime and Aquarium salt (1tbsp per 5 gallons) then in two days i will repeat the same thing trying to use the salt instead of treating with chemicals. They seem to be fine but the peacocks when i dropped some feeder guppies the bass ate them within seconds lol. so i am going to leave them in the tank untill i have everything set up with the bigger tank and things needed to get it back going again. thank you for your time needed some help and much appreciated

Lately there has been a new life spectrum craze. I use the 3mm NLS for my 2" dats and they seem to love it. I've also heard of people feeding massivore as well

I use Hikari and New Life Spectrum. Salt isn't gonna do anything for worms/flukes.

Everything you decribes is normal for dats... I don't check the ph and the temp in my tank could run from 78-92 degrees Havent seen a difference
