datnoid, cichlid compatibility question.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
he's been in with the 2 inch flowerhorn for about a month now and they are fine. I just make sure to feed him goldfish regularly and he seems to be content with that because even though the flowerhorn and jag would easily fit in its mouth, the dat leaves them alone.

They should be fine now since the cichlid are still small , but once they out grow the dat ur gonna have issues because the cichlid u have are some of the most aggressive cichlids !!! I had the same tank mates as u do and the flowerhorn always bully the dats , so the dats always hide and stay black . So i had to remove the flowerhorn . You can try it but always keep an eye on then .

What potential problems do you see? The dat and flowerhorn? dat and Jag? dat and cichlids in general or what? I want it to work but i don't want anything bad to happen.

I see the jag and FH going at it when they get bigger

i know feeder fish are potential problems, but what else should i feed the dat? I've had cichlids for years but this is my first dat and i'm still learning. He shows no interest in frozen food. I know i can do the starvation method to get him to take frozen, but if i do that he will eat the cichlids. I was planning on waiting till the cichlids grew some so they wont fit in the dats mouth then doing the starve method to get the dat on frozen. If there is something better i could do, im all ears because i don't really like using feeders.

I see, have you tried frozen mysis shrimp? My dats never took frozen until I tried mysis shrimp and they devoured it. It also helped them transition to market shrimp because they enjoyed the shellfish by then.

nope havn't tried mysis shrimp. I'll give that a try and see what happens. Thanks for the suggestion, i hope it works.
