Thats realy bad. Threat with Metronidazole & Proziquantel, add salt and raise the temp to 85 degrees. change water every other day. Its the only way I have saveD Dats from the "heavy Breathing(cough)" & "Datnoid disease"
dont use melifax. I put my dat into a 20gallon with a huge filter and added melifax... it killed him.

If it is the dat disease it is in the blood of the fish and melafix,salt or metheline blue is not going to work. Only beytrol injected directly into the fish will cure this problem. I had 2 very large dats come down with the disease and i treated with salt,melafix and blue and it didnt work at all the fish slowly stopped eating and the infection spread from one side of the fish right thru to the other side thru the blood stream. Only the injection done once everyday for three days worked.
Go to cvs or your drug store, and tell them you need something like a syringe to use for building acrylic fish tanks, they will sell you them. We bought a pack and the glue dried inside the syringe so we got screwed.
