Yes, the ich goes through a couple stages of developement, I always get the names of the stages goofed up. most stages are very resistant to treatment.dangitseric said:i heard you can only treat ich when its in a certain stage is this true?
Tomonts come in on an infected fish and when mature fall off, they turn into trophonts that attacch themselves to the substrate and encyst. there they divide inside the casing until it bursts releasing betweem 200 and 2000 free swimming theronts that then seek a host. it is the theront stage that is vulnerable, if subjected to salt or meds some will die then but most will attatch and then die before becoming mature tomonts. This is why the fish looks worse in the first day or two of treatment.
