Hey guys I'm planning on getting 3 baby dats, about 2.5" long for my 90 gal. (I know this tank isn't big enough but i'm not too worried cause I know they grow slow). What do i need to know and need to do as far as water changes, etc? Tank is well cycled had my Flowerhorn which I am now getting rid of. The guy at the store said hes feeding them raw shrimp and blood worms. So any tips and suggests? Thanks

(Fixed sorry for the mistake Fh is leaving)

How big is the FH? FHs are pretty aggressive so it could likely beat up those dats. And I'd recommend going with at least 5 dats, 3 juvenile datnoids will be risky aggression wise and they probably wont be terribly active.

Na the FH is getting out so yeah I'm gonna have an empty 90 gallon tank. So 3 would be too much aggression?

Yes and no. Some people will have diff opinions on if you can have 3 juvie dats. IMO with 3 dats your going to have some dats hiding a lot.... and a bunch of bullying too. Now if you mixed it up with a bunch of other active, cheap filler fish you could probably do it easily.

Oh sounds good since I'm on a tight budget. What kinda fillers do you suggest? The guy at the fish store suggested silver dollars but they're pricey.

Some people will probably disagree with the "filler method" but I've seen it work many times so I don't see why it wouldn't. I remember a guy with a 55g and a NGT and IT in a tank with a bunch of cyprinids, and no aggression between the dats so I think should work fine. Especially since they're small now and in a roomy tank for them at the size.

IDK what the price is at your LFS but I think quarter size SD go for around $5 or something?

He wanted $20 for a 2.5 inch. I think its a good price but I'm a college student on a budget. Fish keeping = expensive
