Now i just need to work on pellet training the bass and the IT.
My tactic which actually works most of the time for me is to tear off a small piece of fish fillet, just big enough to wrap the pellet in,roll it into a ball with the pellet inside and drop it in near the dat.The dat might spit out the pellet but after getting used to the flavor it should start to keep them down.Once the dat is eating the fish balls without spitting the pellets out use smaller and smaller pieces of fish until only the pellet is being given....once the dat takes bare pellets, don't give it anything else but pellets to eat for a few weeks.

Awesome, thanks K krichardson for the advice. I will start this tomorrow when i feed again. Do you think the dat will start competing against the cichla for the food? I have to feed the cichla on one side and the dat on the other so it will drop down to him, and he still doesn't eat every piece that makes it down there. I think its cause he's only been with these guys for 5 days. I've only seen him eat two pieces of fillet.

No problemo and hope you are successful....as for the dat competing for food it just might get enough to eat since it is already chasing the cichla away but cichla can be very greedy the bigger they get and they should grow faster than the dat.

Yeah the cichla are definitely greedy, that might be an understatement lol. Luckily the datnoid is bigger than the cichla but they will catch up quickly. My largest bass has more than doubled in size in the last couple months. Hopefully the datnoid will compete enough for food. I don't want him going hungry.

Is it normal for a dat to starve himself after a move? I've only seen this guy eat once since i got him. I even went as far as throwing some feeders in the tank to get him to eat, i saw him strike at a few but never actually saw him eat any. There were alot left that night and they were gone in the morning but idk if he ate any or if the 2x gar and 4x pbass finished them off. I have only witnessed him eat one piece of tilapia since i got him a week and a half ago. I'm gonna try some night crawlers this evening and see if i have any luck with them. I'm starting to worry about him but i have read that some will starve themselves. Tell me what you guys think, is he just pouting after the move and not eating because of this? He has still been nice and stable everyday and for the most part he is on the move, only occasionally hanging out in the corner of the tank

I think the IT will start eating soon, i fed market prawn last night and he was sucking them up but spitting them, I dont think he actually ate any. But there were still some on the bottom when i passed out and they were gone this morning so he coild have. That was a good sign though, if he'll suck it up eventually he'll eat it.
